In the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, 12 people were killed and 32 injured after a bus carrying 60 passengers collided with a truck to avoid hitting stray animals. Police Officer Yamuna Prasad said that more casualties feared as several of the injured remain in serious condition. The treatment of the injured continues at the hospitals.
According to police reports, around 110,000 people die in traffic accidents in India every year. Accidents are believed to be caused by careless driving, neglected road maintenance and aging vehicles.
