Cambodia expects tourism rebound after 2 years of decline

Cambodia’s tourism industry is expected to recover in 2022 after a two-year decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a tourism official on Tuesday. The kingdom received 1.3 million international tourists in 2020, a decrease of 80% from 2019, and the number fell by another 85% to 196,495 in 2021. “We anticipate that the number of international tourist arrivals to Cambodia will begin to recover from this year as a result of our country’s re-opening and fully-vaccinated visitors. With our quarantine-free policy, we are confident that tourists will consider Cambodia as a top vacation destination, and we hope to attract more than half million international visitors this year ” director of statistics and planning department of the Ministry of Tourism said.

The country is well-known for its three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Angkor Archaeological Park, Preah Vihear Temple, and Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Site. Furthermore, it has a 450-kilometer pristine coastline that stretches across four southwestern provinces.
