The cargo ship ran aground off a port in Japan’s Aomori prefecture and split in two. It was announced that the 21 Chinese and Filipino crew members aboard the Panama registered ship Crimson Polaris were rescued by the Japanese Coast Guard forces. The fuel leaked from the ship spread over a 5-kilometre area. Security measures were taken to prevent the divided part of the ship from hitting other ships.
