A Liberian-flagged cargo ship, MSC ELSA 3, sank in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Kochi, India, after taking on water. All 24 crew members—mainly Filipinos—were safely rescued by the Indian Coast Guard.
The vessel was carrying 640 containers, including hazardous materials like calcium carbide, along with large quantities of diesel and fuel oil. Authorities have issued a high alert in Kerala after several containers fell into the sea. Residents were warned to avoid washed-up containers, and fishermen were advised to stay ashore. An investigation is underway.
