Cats Find Shelter in Unused Dormitory Hut in Türkiye

In Gümüşhane, Türkiye, an unused security hut at a dormitory has been repurposed as a shelter for stray cats through the efforts of university students. The “Cat House” project, initiated by dormitory residents, involved building cat shelters from recycled felt and cardboard. These were placed inside the hut, providing a warm refuge for stray cats.

Students expressed their joy in helping the animals, with Beyzanur Bozkır, a Health Faculty student, noting their use of recycled materials and the support of dormitory administrators. “We designed and built the houses to create a safe and warm space for the cats. It was a fulfilling activity for us,” she said.

The project has garnered praise for its thoughtful approach to animal welfare and sustainability.
