CDU/CSU Wins German Elections, 19 Turkish-Origin MPs Enter Parliament

 

Germany’s early general election results show the Christian Union parties (CDU/CSU) leading with 28.6 percent of the vote, while the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) surged to second place with 20.8 percent.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) secured 16.4 percent, followed by the Greens at 11.6 percent and the Left Party at 8.8 percent. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) failed to pass the 5 percent threshold.

The new Bundestag will include 19 MPs of Turkish origin, with seven from SPD, seven from the Left Party, two from CDU, two from the Greens, and one from the Christian Social Union (CSU).
