A fire at a telecommunications data center in Cairo has killed 4 people and injured 22 others, mostly from smoke inhalation. The blaze, which broke out at the Ramses distribution hub of Telecom Egypt, caused widespread disruptions to internet, phone, and banking services across the city.
Authorities cut power to the building to prevent further damage, while firefighters contained the flames before they spread to nearby structures. The Egyptian National Telecom Regulatory Authority announced that a full report is underway, and restoration efforts have begun. Internet connectivity across Egypt dropped to 62%, according to NetBlocks.
