China’s first domestic C919 passenger plane made its maiden flight today. The 164-seat plane, which took off from Shanghai early on Sunday, made a successful landing in Beijing after about a 3-hour flight with 130 passengers. According to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, the production of the aircraft aims to break the superiority of Western-made single-aisle jets such as Airbus and Boeing. It is planned to annually produce 150 units every year until 2028, and more than 1,200 orders have already been received.
Chinese President Xi Jinping described the project as one of China’s most innovative achievements.
