At least nine people were killed and 19 injured after Tropical Cyclone Gezani struck Toamasina in Madagascar with winds exceeding 195 km/h. Authorities said roofs were torn off, trees uprooted and power lines downed, while building collapses caused the fatalities.
The national meteorological service issued a red alert over flood and landslide risks. President Michael Randrianirina visited the affected region as recovery efforts began, weeks after Cyclone Fytia left 14 dead on the island.
