Dam collapse in Mai Mahiu town, Nakuru region, Kenya, following heavy rains has resulted in at least 42 fatalities, as confirmed by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika. The incident led to residential areas being buried under mud, prompting ongoing rescue operations. The overflow of dam water also caused flooding in the region, leading to the closure of highways. The government reported that over 130 thousand individuals across 24 thousand households, primarily in Nairobi, were displaced due to the floods, prompting the Ministry of Education to extend school breaks by a week. This incident adds to the toll of 120 deaths during the rainy season between March and May in Kenya.
