Istanbul is experiencing severe drought conditions due to a heatwave from Africa, with dam occupancy rates dropping to 36.71 percent. According to the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), occupancy rates in some dams are nearing depletion, with Papuçdere at 4 percent and Kazandere at 7 percent. The water levels in Alibey Dam have fallen so low that previously submerged vehicles and aqueducts are now visible. Some boats used on the lake are also grounded due to lower water levels. Dam occupancy rates are at their lowest in nine years, signifying a serious water crisis in the city.
