Damascus Airport Resumes International Flights

Damascus International Airport has reopened to international flights, with the first flight departing for Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The airport, closed since December 8 after the fall of the Assad regime, initially resumed domestic flights on December 18.

The inaugural international flight carried 145 Syrian passengers. Qatar Airways announced plans to restart flights to Damascus after 13 years, operating three weekly flights beginning January 7. Qatar was also the second country, after Türkiye, to reopen its embassy in Damascus.

The airport’s first domestic flight was a test trip to Aleppo, marking its gradual return to operation.
