Thousands protested the government’s bill to cancel the public holiday, the Day of Great Prayer, to help finance defense expenditures that increased due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war in the capital, Copenhagen. The demonstration of assumedly 50,000 people, organized by labor unions, against the cancellation of the Christian holiday, dating back to 1686, is recorded as the biggest demonstration staged in the country in recent years.
The government declared that they were determined to pass the bill despite any opposition.
