David Card, Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbens win the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel

Secretary General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences Professor Göran K. Hansson announced the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel during a press conference at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden. The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2021 was divided, one half awarded to David Card “for his empirical contributions to labour economics”, the other half jointly to Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbens “for their methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships.”

“Card’s studies of core questions for society and Angrist and Imbens’ methodological contributions have shown that natural experiments are a rich source of knowledge. Their research has substantially improved our ability to answer key causal questions, which has been of great benefit to society,” said Peter Fredriksson, chair of the Economic Sciences Prize Committee.

Arab Tribes Mobilize as Clashes Erupt Again in Syria’s Sweida

0

Clashes between Druze armed groups and Bedouins have reignited in Sweida, southern Syria, prompting Arab tribes from various regions to head toward the area in support of the Bedouins.

Fighting intensified last night following a Druze assault, with convoys of tribesmen advancing in vehicles. Local sources report ongoing clashes west of the city.

The Syrian Interior Ministry stated that government forces have not deployed to Sweida and remain on standard alert. However, an unnamed Israeli official said Israel has agreed to allow limited Syrian government access to the area for 48 hours due to instability.

Despite efforts by Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara to reduce tensions, the violence has escalated, with hundreds reportedly killed.
