A great dead shark, 10 meters long and weighing 2 tons, was caught in a fishing net on the seashores of the Urla district of Izmir, Türkiye. Also known as the basking shark, which was brought ashore at the Pier Harbor, will be examined by the experts of Katip Çelebi University.
Giving information about the caught shark, Ege University Faculty of Aquaculture Dr. Faculty Member Sencer Akalın said, “These species are not harmful to humans. They primarily feed on microscopic creatures known as plankton in the seas. It can appear all over the world’s oceans and seas. Like many other sharks, it is a rare fish species that is endangered due to its reproductive habits.”
