The Democratic Republic of Congo faced devastating floods and landslides due to heavy rainfall. At least 60 lives were lost, with 40 fatalities reported in Bukavu and Burinyi, South Kivu province. Search and rescue operations persist in these areas. Emmanuel Majivuno Kalimba, an official in Bukavu, highlighted the impact of blocked waterways leading to flooding and house damage during heavy rains. Additionally, in Kasai-Central province, a landslide claimed the lives of at least 20 people, severely affecting numerous houses.

Speaking at the 13th Meeting of High Security Officials in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that a new round of direct negotiations with Ukraine will be announced shortly. He recalled that Istanbul hosted the first round on May 16 and said Russia will continue to demand the repeal of laws in Ukraine that restrict the Russian language, culture, and the Russian-linked Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Lavrov reiterated that Ukraine’s neutral status remains a key demand in peace efforts.
