The death toll from a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Syria continues to rise. According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, the death toll has increased to 769 and the number of those injured to 1448. The ministry stated that this outcome is not final and the alert continues in all public and private health facilities. All health staff are working at maximum capacity.

Budapest is set to host the Organization of Turkic States (TDT) Informal Summit on May 20–21, marking the first time a country with observer status, Hungary, will host the event. The city has been decorated with TDT flags ahead of the summit, which will take place at the historic Varkert Bazar near the Danube.
Leaders from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Hungary are expected to attend. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will also hold bilateral talks during his visit.
The summit will focus on deepening strategic cooperation among Turkic states, with discussions on economic ties, security, and cultural heritage. The event will conclude with the adoption of the Budapest Declaration.
