The number of people who died in the collapsed four-storey apartment building in the Janga district of Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state in the northeast of Brazil, rose to 14. It is estimated that the building was destroyed due to heavy rains that were effective in the region. Pernambuco Governor Raquel Lyra warned that more precipitation is expected in the region.
It was reported that most of the residents of the building were asleep during the disaster.
