Death toll from cyclone rises to 225 in Malawi

The number of people killed by Cyclone Freddy has risen to 225, with 707 injured and 41 people are still missing in Malawi, according to the Malawi Disaster Management Center. Guilherme Botelho, the Emergency Project Coordinator for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Malawi, warned that the cyclone could trigger an epidemic in the country, which is already dealing with a cholera outbreak.

In addition, the death toll in neighboring Mozambique, which was hit by a storm before Malawi on Saturday, has climbed to 20. Today, it is expected that the storm that has stopped life in two African countries will move away from land and toward the sea.
