The death toll from the riots that began broke out after the protests against the bill to change the voting system in France’s overseas territory of New Caledonia increased to 6. In the latest incident, one rioter died as a result of a fire opened at the barricades set up on the roads in Kaala-Gomen.
Noumea Mayor Sonia Lagarde said that the violence decreased after a curfew was imposed between 18.00 and 06.00 local time but the tension continued.
