The death toll in the riot that broke out at the Centro Femenino de Adaptacin Social (CEFAS) women’s prison in Tamara, near Tegusigalpa, the capital of Honduras, is increasing. The death toll during the riot rose from 41 to 48, according to authorities. It was reported that most of them were burned to death, while others were shot to death. Honduran President Xiomara Castro said that drastic measures would be taken.
One prisoner who was injured in the attack stated that the riot started when a group of prisoners with AR-15 assault rifles opened fire on the prisoners in another cell.
