A fire broke out in the forest area close to the settlements in the historic city of Tepoztlan in the Mexican state of Morelos. A suspect, who was caught in the forest during the first response to the fire, confessed in his interrogation that he started the fire himself. Gabino Rodriguez, the leader of the civil defense team, said that when they caught the person who burned the forest, he was under the influence of drugs and stated that the man enjoyed burning the forest.
Tepoztlan city officials announced that the fire extinguishing works were carried out with the support of a team of 102 people and fire helicopters. Due to the fire, 30 hectares of forest area in the region turned to ash, and the authorities reported that the fire has been under control by 20 percent so far.
