Death Toll from Earthquake Rises to 17 in Thailand

The Thai Disaster Prevention Department, which is conducting damage assessment efforts across Thailand after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, reported that the death toll has risen to 17 and the number of injured has risen to 32.

Officials reported that 9 people were found in the rubble of the 33-story skyscraper that collapsed in the Chathuchak district of Bangkok and that 79 people are still missing.

A woman who was evacuated with other patients from a hospital where she went for a routine checkup due to her pregnancy in Bangkok gave birth on a stretcher at a park across from the hospital. Hospital officials reported that the mother and baby are in good condition.
