Tunca River in Türkiye’s Edirne, an important water resource and also one of the important historical values of the city, has become the new victim of increasing global warming. Due to the abnormally high air temperature and lack of precipitation in the city in the past years, the flow rate of the river was measured at 4 cubic meters per second, which is four times lower than last year’s result.
“Because the Tunca Riverside is a place we frequently come to in summer and winter, we witnessed almost every level of the river’s water. Even though it is the first period of spring, this withdrawal of water will cause us new problems in 3 months. I see that the water is both polluted and the creatures living in the water are in a very difficult situation,” said Cennet Cemre Aydınbir, a university student.
