Due to high air pollution and dust clouds in Iran, all schools and universities in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan, Loristan, Hamedan and Kermanshah, including the capital Tehran have been suspended. In The air pollution rate is at a “risky” level for all age groups with 441 micrograms/cubic meter in Tehran.
Explaining the level of air pollution and the measures taken, Tehran Deputy Mayor Abid Meleki said, “Air pollution in the city is at an extremely unhealthy level. Therefore, all schools, universities and governmental institutions have been suspended.” Meleki asked Tehran residents not to go out today and tomorrow.
Tehran’s unsuitable location for air circulation, poor quality fuels, and heavy use of motorcycles and old-fashioned vehicles are cited as the main causes of air pollution.
