In Izmir, the remains of an elderly woman who had not been heard from for about three years were discovered in her home. The woman, identified as retired nurse Gülşen Çoğulu, lived alone in an attic apartment in the Konak district. Her stepson, R.Ç., who had lost contact with her since the pandemic, alerted authorities after failing to reach her.
Police entered the house with a locksmith and found her bones on a bed amid piles of garbage. Investigators determined that she had died long ago, and no foul play was detected. Her remains were sent to the Izmir Forensic Medicine Institute for examination.
Neighbors believed she had moved to a nursing home years ago. Some recalled that her house was filled with garbage and had a strong odor, which they had assumed was from the accumulated waste. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of her death.
