Seyfettin Tokmak’s film Empire of the Rabbits won Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it had its world premiere. The film, a joint production of Türkiye, Mexico, Croatia, and Lebanon, explores themes of friendship, resistance, and imagination through the story of Musa, who dreams of saving rabbits from greyhound races to create a free world for them.
The Best Cinematography Award was given to Claudia Becerril Bulos for her evocative visuals, which the jury described as capturing “desolation and darkness” while offering a “meditative experience.” Tokmak’s screenplay was praised as “heartbreaking” and “thought-provoking,” addressing issues like exploitation and poverty with sensitivity.
Supported by Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and featuring music by Erkan Oğur, the film is set to premiere in Türkiye in 2025.
