Eruption Risk Rises at Mayon Volcano in Philippines

Authorities in the Philippines raised the alert level at Mayon Volcano to level 3, warning of a possible eruption within weeks. The volcanology agency Phivolcs ordered evacuations within a 6-kilometer radius due to risks of lava flows, rockfalls, and debris. Flights were advised to avoid the summit because of potential ash clouds. Mayon, the country’s most active volcano, last erupted in June 2023.
