The Erzurum Museum in Türkiye has unveiled a collection of 175 ancient jewelry items, including pieces that date back 3,500 years. These artifacts, which have never been displayed before, are part of a new initiative by the museum to showcase previously stored items in themed exhibitions. The collection features jewelry from the Urartian, Hellenistic, Roman, and Ottoman periods.
The exhibition was curated under the supervision of archaeologist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülşah Altunkaynak. The artifacts were meticulously cleaned and restored by experts before being arranged in chronological order. Dr. Altunkaynak highlighted the richness of Urartian jewelry culture, which is prominently featured alongside pieces from later periods, including the Ottoman Empire. Visitors can view items such as ornamental needles, bracelets, necklaces, and belts spanning thousands of years of history.
