Thousands of civilians, trying to escape from the attacks in the capital Kyiv, are flocking to the borders of neighboring countries. Maria Kusnir, a 29-year-old Ukrainian woman, left her home in Kyiv with not only her belongings but also her pets. Kusnir took her parrots, dog and bird with her, and did not leave any of her pets behind. Kusnir said that her husband would leave her at the Romanian border and return to Kyiv to defend his country. “I couldn’t leave them to their fate in this war. That’s why I took them all with me,” Kusnir said about her pets while waiting at Romanian border.
