European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said Poland “has the right to defend itself against any attack” after Russian drones violated its airspace during strikes on Ukraine. She stressed the issue concerns not only Poland’s security but also Europe’s preparedness for future threats.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called the breach “the most serious airspace violation since the war began,” adding that evidence suggests it was deliberate. She confirmed ongoing talks with NATO leadership and Polish officials.
Polish forces shot down the drones, marking the first time a NATO ally has destroyed a Russian air asset inside its own airspace since 2022.
