EU Parliament Approves Gradual Ban on Russian Gas Imports

The European Parliament has approved a plan to phase out Russian gas and LNG imports across the European Union by autumn 2027. The measure, backed by 500 lawmakers, would ban spot-market Russian LNG in 2026 and end pipeline gas imports by September 30, 2027, pending approval by EU member states. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the decision marks a decisive step in reducing Europe’s energy dependence on Russia.
