EU purchases 110,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine

EU takes action against monkeypox. Stella Kyriakides, Member of the EU Commission responsible for health, made statements before the meeting to be held with the health ministers of EU countries. Kyriakides stated that an agreement will be signed with the Danish-based biotechnology company Bavarian Nordic today for the supply of 110,000 doses of vaccine against the monkeypox. The vaccines will be purchased with EU funds, and the first dose deliveries will start at the end of June to the countries that need the vaccine the most, Kyriakides said. The delivery will start immediately and will be completed in the coming months, Bavarian Nordic stated.

According to the EU Commission, about 900 cases of monkeypox have been reported from 19 member states, as well as from Norway and Iceland, where vaccines will be supplied although they are not EU members.
