Explosion at Runway Disrupts Flights at Miyazaki Airport, Japan

An explosion occurred at Miyazaki Airport in Japan, creating a 7-meter-wide and 1-meter-deep hole on the taxiway. The incident, reported around 08:00 local time, prompted authorities to suspend all flights as a precaution. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Police and fire teams were dispatched to the site, and a detailed investigation is underway. A Japan Self-Defense Forces bomb disposal unit from Saga Prefecture was sent to the airport amid concerns of unexploded World War II ordnance possibly being present on the runway.

South Korean Court Removes President Yoon Over Martial Law

0

South Korea’s Constitutional Court has unanimously upheld the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, officially removing him from office over his unlawful declaration of martial law. The court ruled that Yoon violated democratic principles by deploying troops to the National Assembly and bypassing legal procedures.

Early presidential elections must be held within 60 days, likely between May 24 and June 3.

While the ruling People’s Power Party said it respects the decision, Yoon’s lawyer called the ruling “a political move.” The opposition Democratic Party welcomed the court’s decision as “a victory for democracy.”

Yoon was arrested in January during the investigation but released after 52 days. He is the first South Korean president to be detained before the completion of an impeachment process.
