Nine people, including 4 children, lost their lives and 9 were injured in an explosion that occurred in a 5-storey building in the town of Tymovskoye on Sakhalin Island, Russia. A part of the building, in which a total of 33 residents lived, collapsed after the blast.
A rescue team consisting of 60 people evacuated the people in the building and started searching under the debris.
Governor of Sakhalin Oblast, Valery Limarenko stated, “The ground floor of the building has been reached to. We are considering the possibility that 1 more person may be under the rubble.” He said that 1 person who was rescued from the wreckage will have an operation, and the other 8 injured are not in a life-threatening condition.
Limarenko said they were considering the possibility that the explosion might have occurred due to gas leakage.
The Investigative Committee of Russia started an investigation into the incident.
