A 2019 footage of an operation in an eye hospital in China’s Guigang revealed that the surgeon, who is also the hospital’s dean, punched his 82-year-old patient during surgery. AIER Eye Hospital Group, the umbrella organization of the hospital, stated that the incident was not reported to the center in time and suspended the surgeon and dismissed the hospital manager. According to the organization, the surgeon used brute force on the patient on the grounds that she was frequently moving and did not comply with his warnings because she did not speak Mandarin.
Stating that the hospital management apologized after the surgery and paid compensation of 500 yuan, the woman’s son told local media outlets that his mother was blind in her left eye, but the reason for this was unknown.
