Hundreds of German farmers who wanted to protest the Olaf Scholz government and its agricultural policies roamed around the German capital with their vehicles. Driving in front of the Brandenburg Gate near the government building, the crowd chanted against the government’s decision to gradually remove agricultural subsidies and demanded that the decision be withdrawn. Transport companies protesting the increase in truck fees also supported the action.
The federal government had previously announced that it planned to cut 920 million euros from the agricultural sector in order to close the budget deficit in 2024, and is considering removing vehicle tax exemption for agricultural vehicles and subsidies for agricultural diesel fuel.
