Search and rescue operations continue in Syria, which was affected by the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş. The civil defense team in Afrin found a father who had shielded his son by hugging him while they were searching through the rubble. The father had already passed away when the child was rescued alive from the rubble. Rescuers quickly carried the child to the ambulance and took him to the hospital.

Smoke was seen rising from the site after the attack.
The Israeli army has not issued an official statement, but COGAT, an Israeli military body, previously claimed Hamas was using the hospital as a command center.
The facility, built by Türkiye for cancer treatment, had been repurposed as an Israeli military base before forces withdrew on January 19. It had been out of service since November 2023 due to Israeli attacks.
