A leakage occurred on the seabed at the gas transmission pipeline of platform 16 of South Pars gas field in Iran on Friday. While a fire broke out at gas platform due to leakage, all production was shut down at Platform 16. According to statement released by Pars Oil and Gas Company on Friday, following the incident and due to the lightning strike on the water surface, the gas released on the water surface and at a distance of 15 km from the platform caught fire, which was immediately contained after gas production was halted. “Following leakage from the offshore pipeline of South Pars Phase 16, plans are being made to carry out repairs and resume production at the phase’s platform,” Company said on Saturday, while stated that there weren’t any major damage happened. Also it was reported that there was a decrease of 15 million cubic meters in gas production.
