Fire in 16-storey building in Moscow: 8 dead, 4 injured

A fire broke out on the first floor of a 16-story building used as a hostel in Moscow, Russia, killing 8 people and injuring. 200 people were evacuated from the building. The victims were reportedly foreign nationals. They were unable to get out of the building as the windows were covered with safety bars, authorities said. The fire alarm in the building was broken, and the hostel owner was warned in last month’s inspection, authorities added. An investigation has been launched against the hostel regarding the incident.

The fire, which was effective in a total area of ​​​​150 square meters, was extinguished hours later. According to reports, the fire was caused by an electrical system malfunction.
