Two hotels and a restaurant in Holbox Island, the tourism center of Mexico, turned into ashes in the fire that broke out as an LPG cylinder exploded. The incident also injured a person.
Since there is no fire department on the island, the first response to the fire was carried out by the citizens with buckets and hoses before firefighters from the cities of Cancun and Playa del Carmen were sent to the island.
Quintana Roo State Governor Mara Lezama Espinoza stated the fire was brought under control and promised to set up a fire station on the island for the safety of Holbox Island residents and tourists after the fire.
