At a press conference in Paris, France, the European Space Agency (ESA) introduced the world to the 2022 Astronaut Training Class, which it opened to train new astronauts after 13 years. British paralympic runner John McFall was the world’s first disabled astronaut when he joined ESA’s new class of 17 people.
McFall competed in paralympic races after losing his leg in a motorcycle accident when he was 19 years old. McFall took bronze in the 100m at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing.
