The first snow of the season fell in Moscow, one of the world’s coldest capitals. While the snow depth reached 10 centimeters in some places, the city’s highways, rivers, and lakes froze as the air temperature dropped to minus 5 degrees Celsius. Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations warned the public not to park vehicles under balconies or billboards ahead of snowfall. The Moscow Municipality also warned residents to be cautious of frost and icing, as the city’s air temperature is expected to hover between -5 and 0 degrees for the next five days. Furthermore, the municipality stated that all security measures were implemented in the city and that salting was done to prevent icing on main and side roads.
