Five Roman-Era Statues Unearthed in Türkiye

Archaeologists have discovered five Roman-period statues during ongoing excavations in the Ancient City of Perge, as part of Türkiye’s Heritage to the Future Project. The findings provide new insights into the artistic and cultural life of the city.

The statues were found in different locations, including the Western City Gate and the Eastern Colonnaded Street. Among the most notable is a two-meter-high statue of Aphrodite/Venus, featuring Eros on a dolphin. Other discoveries include a standing female figure, possibly a priestess, and two additional dressed figures.

The excavation, led by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will continue in 2025, further exploring Perge’s rich archaeological heritage.
