Flood continues its effect in India’s Assam state

The flood disaster caused by the heavy rains in the Indian state of Assam continues its effect in the region. The rains that continuous in the state for the last 3 days caused the Brahmaputra, one of the largest rivers in the world, to overflow. During the disaster, more than 1,500 villages were flooded. Assam Revenue and Disaster Management, Hills Area Development, Mines and Minerals Minister Jogen Mohan announced that due to flooding and landslides in the Dima Hasao region, both rail and road connections were interrupted and the situation in the region is “extremely grave”. While a bridge made of wood collapsed due to the continuous rains, the ones on it fell into the water. “More than 500,000 people were negatively affected by the flood, which became more critical every hour,” Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika said in his statement. As the Indian army stepped in due to the natural disaster, more than 2,000 people trapped in the Hojai region were rescued.
