One person died in the flood caused by heavy rains in Rijeka, Croatia. Many buildings and houses in the city were damaged, including a school and police station, while the roads were flooded. Emergency services reported receiving about 200 calls for help.
Rijeka Mayor Marko Filipovic expressed his condolences to the family of the victim.
Andriy Portnov, former aide to ex-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, was shot dead in Madrid’s upscale Pozuelo de Alarcon district. Spanish authorities say unidentified gunmen opened fire as the 52-year-old was dropping off his children at school, striking him in the back and head before fleeing.
Portnov, a former MP and lawyer, fled Ukraine with Yanukovych in 2014, briefly returned in 2019, and was later sanctioned by the U.S. for alleged judicial corruption.
