Heavy rainfall on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island has triggered floods and landslides, leaving 20 dead across four regions. Overflowing rivers and debris from mountain slopes caused destruction in villages, damaging homes and farms.
The fatalities include 10 in Karo, 4 in Deli Serdang, 4 in Padang Lawas, and 2 in South Tapanuli. Such disasters are common in Indonesia, where October to March rains often impact the country’s mountainous, densely populated areas.
