Floods Hit Southern France, One Dead

Torrential rains triggered severe flooding in France’s Var region, submerging towns and infrastructure. The La Mole River rose 11 meters in two hours, flooding settlements and La Mole–Saint-Tropez Airport. One person died and another is missing in Le Lavandou, local authorities reported.

Le Lavandou, Bormes-les-Mimosas, and Cavalière were the worst hit. “Cavalière is cut off from the world,” said Mayor Gil Bernardi, noting collapsed roads and damaged bridges. Major roads including RD98 and RD559 were closed, and some areas experienced power cuts and shop closures.

Emergency teams deployed over 100 personnel, while mobile alerts warned residents to avoid riverbanks. In Cannes and Nice, all parks and gardens were shut as the storm system moved east toward Alpes-Maritimes.
