The forest fire, which continues to grow for the third day, in the Ofunato city of Japan’s Iwate Prefecture has reduced at least 1,200 hectares of forest to ashes.
As of today, 825 people have been evacuated to temporary centers and 3,306 more have been warned to evacuate.
The Japan Fire and Disaster Management Agency has sent 1,675 firefighting personnel from surrounding prefectures to Ofunato due to the inadequacy of local fire departments in extinguishing the fire.
Authorities confirmed that one person, whose body was found in the area yesterday, had died due to the fire.
