A forest fire has erupted in the Gard region of southern France. While 620 hectares of land have been turned to ash so far, extinguishing efforts with planes, helicopters, and 700 firefighters continue. Some areas of the fire were declared “inaccessible,” by the Governor’s Office of Gard, which issued a red alert regarding the fire. Residents were evicted from small settlements in the communes of Bordezac and Besseges. The fire department stated that strong winds were fueling the flames, threatening thousands of hectares of forested areas.
